Grangetown is an inner‑city, riverside neighbourhood just south‑west of Cardiff's city centre, bordered to the east by the River Taff and set close to Cardiff Bay. Largely laid out in the mid‑19th century on reclaimed marshland to house workers for the docks and local industry, it still shows a grid of Victorian terraced streets and is served by Grangetown railway station.
Today Grangetown is known for its multicultural community, independent shops and cafés along Penarth Road, and active local groups; its proximity to Cardiff Bay and the Cardiff Bay Barrage has brought investment and regeneration alongside pressure on housing. The area mixes long‑standing families with younger professionals, small businesses and light industry, and offers pockets of green space such as Grange Gardens and Grangemoor Park.
