Splott is an inner‑city ward to the east of Cardiff city centre and just north of Cardiff Bay in Wales. Its name is thought to come from an old word meaning a small patch of land, and the area is characterised by tight terraces, allotments and a few pockets of green space, all within easy reach of the centre and neighbouring districts such as Roath and Adamsdown.
Historically it expanded rapidly in the late 19th century to house dock and industry workers from the nearby Cardiff Docks, giving it strong working‑class roots. Today the ward retains a closely knit community feel, with local shops, pubs and grassroots cultural activity, while also seeing pockets of regeneration and change as Cardiff's waterfront and city centre evolve.
