St Asaph in Denbighshire, Wales is one of Britain’s smallest cities, sitting in the low-lying, picturesque valley where the River Elwy meets the floodplain of the River Clwyd. It grew up around an early medieval cathedral foundation associated with Saint Asaph, and the compact historic core is still dominated by St Asaph Cathedral, narrow streets and riverside walks that make it popular for gentle tourism, fishing and country strolls.
Locally the economy is a mix of agriculture, small shops and services with residents often commuting to larger centres via the nearby A55. Despite its size the city punches above its weight culturally, hosting concerts and community events around the cathedral and town hall, while its history, river setting and regular flood management keep it an interesting blend of rural life and civic identity.
