Friog is a small coastal hamlet in Gwynedd, Wales, sitting on the narrow shelf of coastline that looks out over Cardigan Bay. The settlement is best known for its dramatic cliffs and the sweeping coastal views towards Barmouth; the coastline here is part of the characterful stretch served by the Cambrian Coast, with nearby beaches, seals and seabirds often visible from the road and footpaths.
Life in Friog is quietly rural and seasonal, with a local economy shaped by farming, holiday cottages and walkers using the coastal routes; there’s also a strong Welsh-language presence typical of the region. Historically the precarious cliffline has influenced transport and local life - landslips and coastal erosion have periodically affected the railway and road, so the place has a sense of being tucked into a wild, changeable seascape not far from the hills of Snowdonia National Park.
