Llanuwchllyn is a sparsely populated electoral ward on the southern shore of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) in Gwynedd, Wales, sitting close to the upland source of the River Dee. The landscape is largely open pasture and rolling hills with scattered hamlets, giving easy access to lakeside recreation and the hills of Snowdonia; it feels distinctly rural and scenic rather than urbanised.
Locally the community is strongly Welsh-speaking with a long farming tradition - sheep and hill agriculture remain important - while tourism and outdoor pursuits around the lake and railway bring extra income. The ward also serves as the southern terminus for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway, a notable local attraction, and maintains a close-knit social life centred on village institutions and community projects.
