Corris is a small rural parish on the southern fringes of Snowdonia in Gwynedd, Wales, set in a narrow valley beneath the foothills of Cadair Idris and within easy reach of Machynlleth and Dolgellau. The local landscape is defined by steep, slate‑scarred slopes, rivers and the remains of quarry workings and tramways that testify to its industrial past.
Historically the community grew around slate extraction and the narrow‑gauge Corris Railway; today those remnants provide industrial archaeology and form the basis for a modest tourist economy alongside farming and small crafts businesses, including a notable craft centre. Socially the parish remains a close‑knit, largely Welsh‑speaking rural community, balancing conservation of its landscape and heritage with outdoor recreation such as walking and climbing on the nearby hills.
