Tywyn is a coastal parish on the southern shore of Cardigan Bay in Gwynedd, Wales, set against a broad sweep of sand and dunes and close to the mouth of the Afon Dyfi. The name itself derives from the Welsh for "sand dune"; the parish has a long maritime and Victorian seaside history and features the medieval parish church of St Cadfan with several ancient carved stones.
Today the local economy mixes tourism, agriculture and small local services, while heritage attractions such as the preserved Talyllyn Railway and nearby nature conservation areas - part of the wider Dyfi Biosphere Reserve landscape - draw visitors. There remains a strong Welsh-speaking community and an active local social calendar, with walking and heritage events reflecting the parish’s coastal and upland connections.
