Menai Bridge sits on the southern edge of Anglesey, looking across the tidal Menai Strait towards Snowdonia. The town grew up around the early 19th‑century Menai Suspension Bridge - Thomas Telford’s famous span that for the first time gave a direct road link to the mainland - and is also close to the later Britannia Bridge, giving the area a strong sense of transport history and dramatic waterside scenery.
Today it is a lively small community with a working harbour and marina, a mix of Victorian architecture, independent shops and cafés, and plenty of boating and walking activity; tourism and local services sit alongside commuting links to Bangor. Welsh language and local traditions remain visible in everyday life, and the town is a handy base for exploring the coast, the strait’s tidal ecology, and the rest of Anglesey.
