Beechwood is a mainly residential ward on the northern edge of Newport in south‑east Wales, characterised by a mix of interwar and post‑war housing, small local shopping parades and pockets of green space. It has straightforward road and bus links into the city centre and onto the M4, making it popular with commuters as well as longer‑standing local families.
The area grew with Newport’s 20th‑century expansion and retains a community‑focused feel, with schools, churches and voluntary groups playing a visible role in local life. The local economy is driven by small businesses and retail, while many residents work across Newport or in nearby Cardiff, giving the ward a broadly mixed social and age profile.
