Bettws is a residential ward on the western edge of Newport in Wales, whose name derives from the Welsh for a prayer house. Once a small village, it expanded through 20th-century housing developments and now mixes private and social housing, local shops and schools, with patches of green space that give it a suburban feel while remaining close to the city and major transport routes.
The area has a strong local identity and active community life, with neighbourhood centres, sports clubs and grassroots projects often prominent in village‑style events. Like many parts of the city it has seen targeted regeneration and community investment in recent years, reflecting a mixed socio-economic profile and a focus on improving facilities and opportunities for residents.
