Berriew in Powys, Wales is a compact, very picturesque village in the old county of Montgomeryshire, sitting at the mouth of the River Rhiw where it meets the River Severn - its Welsh name, Aberriw, literally means “mouth of the Rhiw”. The village is noted for a cluster of attractive timber‑framed and thatched cottages and a number of listed buildings, many set along the riverside and within a conservation area that gives the place a strong sense of history and character.
Today Berriew remains a rural, community‑focused place with agriculture still important to the local economy, alongside small businesses, pubs and tearooms that cater for visitors and walkers. It has an active social life with village events and shows, and is close to the market town of Welshpool, making it a popular base for exploring this quieter, historically rich part of mid‑Wales.
