Located in north Powys in mid-Wales, Llanfyllin sits in the upper valley of the River Cain at the foot of the Berwyn hills. The settlement grew as a market and parish centre with medieval roots associated with St Myllin, and its streets still show Georgian and Victorian buildings and the imprint of a former local railway branch.
Today it functions as a service hub for surrounding farms and upland communities, with an economy based on agriculture, small businesses and rural tourism - popular with walkers, cyclists and anglers. Community life is active, with annual agricultural shows, local clubs and voluntary organisations helping to sustain a strong sense of identity while conservation of the surrounding landscape shapes development and leisure opportunities.
