The ward centred on Llansantffraid lies in northern Powys, close to the English border on the A483 between Oswestry and Welshpool. It covers the village and surrounding rolling farmland, with views towards the Shropshire Hills and a landscape of hedged pastures, small woodlands and country lanes that encourage walking and local tourism.
Historically the settlement grew up around a medieval church dedicated to Saint Ffraid, which gives the place its name, and agriculture still shapes much of the local economy alongside small businesses and commuters to nearby market towns. The community remains active and largely bilingual, with a village hall, pubs and regular local events that reflect the borderland culture and history of the area.
