Llanymynech in Powys sits right on the border between Wales and England, with part of the settlement extending into Shropshire. The village nestles beneath a limestone ridge, Llanymynech Hill, whose disused quarries and species-rich calcareous grassland form a small nature reserve and give the area dramatic views over the surrounding farmland.
The community grew around limestone extraction and the limekilns that supplied Victorian agriculture and building, and relics of that industrial past and the nearby Montgomery Canal attract walkers, naturalists and canal enthusiasts. Today it remains a quiet, cross-border village with a strong local identity, pubs and community groups that reflect its mixed Welsh–English heritage.
