Pont-y-clun is a small parish in Rhondda Cynon Taf in south Wales, sitting on the valley floor beside the River Ely. The settlement grew from a rural cluster around a bridge and lanes into a modest village influenced by nineteenth‑century transport improvements; you still see a mix of older cottages and Victorian buildings tucked against open farmland and green corridors.
Historically agricultural and later touched by the wider coal and iron industries of the Valleys, the area is now largely residential with a quiet commuter character, close enough to Cardiff for daily travel. Local life centres on community halls, churches and sports clubs, and there remains a strong sense of local identity with occasional village events and good walking routes along the river and valley slopes.
