Pontyclun is a small town in Rhondda Cynon Taf, set on the banks of the River Ely about ten to twelve miles west of Cardiff. It occupies a convenient spot between Pontypridd and Talbot Green and has good transport links that helped shape its development during the Victorian era.
Originally expanded in the 19th century with the coming of the railway and nearby coal and iron workings, Pontyclun today feels more like a commuter town with local shops, light industry and an active community life. You’ll still find Victorian terraces and hints of its industrial past alongside green spaces, local clubs and a strong sense of village community.
