Fairwater is an electoral ward in Torfaen, occupying a largely residential sector on the northern edge of Cwmbran in south‑east Wales. Much of the neighbourhood grew up as part of the post‑war New Town expansion of Cwmbran, so the area is a mix of council‑built estates and later private housing, served by local shops, primary schools and community facilities.
Like much of the region it shares a connection to the industrial heritage of the South Wales Valleys, though today the local economy is more service‑orientated and commuter‑focused with road and rail links into Newport and Cardiff. Active community groups, parks and modest civic amenities give the ward a quiet, suburban character typical of New Town‑era neighbourhoods in modern Wales.
