Upper Cwmbran is the northern, more rural part of Cwmbran within the county borough of Torfaen in south‑east Wales. Set around the wooded slopes and the Afon Llwyd valley, it still shows farmland, hedgerows and pockets of older stone and Victorian-era housing that predate the designation of the new town after the Second World War.
Historically linked to agriculture and the wider South Wales industrial hinterland, the parish today blends long-standing local families with commuters working in Cwmbran, Newport or Cardiff. Community life tends to centre on village halls, churches and walking routes through surrounding green spaces, giving it a quieter, village-like character while remaining close to larger urban amenities.
