Hoyland Milton is a ward in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley, in South Yorkshire, sitting on the southern fringe of the borough where former industrial landscapes meet rolling Pennine foothills. The area has a strong coal-mining heritage, visible in older terraced streets, memorials and a number of reclaimed colliery sites that have been turned into green spaces and community woodlands.
Today the ward combines residential suburbs with local shops, community centres and light industry, and benefits from good links to nearby towns and cities such as Hoyland itself and Sheffield, while being close to the softer countryside of the Dearne Valley. Local life is shaped by active neighbourhood groups and a steady shift from traditional heavy industry to services, retail and small-scale manufacturing.
