Stairfoot is an electoral ward in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley, on the south‑eastern edge of the town in South Yorkshire. The ward is centred on the busy Stairfoot junction where several A‑roads meet, making it a local transport hub that links Barnsley with Doncaster, Sheffield and the Dearne Valley. Its landscape reflects 19th‑ and 20th‑century industrial growth - former coal and engineering works gave rise to terraced housing and working‑class communities.
Today Stairfoot is a mixed residential area with pockets of social housing, local shops and retailing, and ongoing regeneration aimed at tackling post‑industrial economic challenges. Community groups, schools and local histories keep a strong sense of place, while the remaining industrial legacy and road network continue to shape daily life and development prospects.
