Jump is a small former mining village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire. It sits within the old coalfield landscape of the Dearne Valley and grew up in the 19th and early 20th centuries to house workers for nearby pits.
Like many former mining communities it is largely residential today, with terraced housing, local shops, pubs and churches, and a strong local identity tied to its industrial past. Its proximity to Barnsley and regional transport links means residents commute for work while ongoing regeneration efforts aim to refresh local facilities and public spaces.
