Worsbrough is a former mining village on the southern edge of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, set in the shallow valley of the River Dove. It’s best known for Worsbrough Reservoir and the adjoining country park, where the restored Worsbrough Mill sits by the water and the area is popular for walking, birdwatching and informal watersports.
Historically the settlement grew up around canals and coal - the reservoir was built to feed the Dearne and Dove Canal - and traces of that industrial past remain alongside modern commuter housing. Today it keeps a village feel with active community groups, local clubs and some visitor-focused businesses while many residents travel to Barnsley or Sheffield for work.
