Dean and Shelton is a small, mainly rural civil parish in the Borough of Bedford, Bedfordshire, made up of a couple of compact village settlements surrounded by arable fields, hedgerows and quiet lanes. Its landscape and settlement pattern reflect long-standing agricultural use, with a handful of historic houses and parish church buildings hinting at medieval origins and a continuity of local life.
Today the community combines farming activity with a number of residents who commute into Bedford and neighbouring towns, while social life centres on village amenities such as the hall, occasional local events and the parish council; it retains a character of small‑scale village community and rural tranquillity close to the services of the county town.
