Great Denham is a relatively new riverside ward on the west side of Bedford, built on former farmland and gravel workings beside the River Great Ouse. The development is notable for its flood-defence engineering and balancing lakes, with Great Denham Country Park and waterside paths that attract wildlife and make it feel more like a village than a suburban estate.
It has a family-oriented, commuter population with a small village centre, community facilities and local clubs, and a mix of independent shops and services. The economy is largely residential with local leisure businesses and easy road and rail access into Bedford and on towards London, while active residents' groups and regular community events help give the ward a strong social identity.
