Horwich is a former mill and engineering town on the western edge of Bolton in Greater Manchester, England, sitting at the foothills of the West Pennine Moors. It is known for easy access to upland walks on Winter Hill and the reservoirs and gardens around Rivington and Lever Park, while still being well connected to the motorway network via the M61 and the A6.
Horwich has a strong industrial past - the long-running Horwich Loco Works was a major employer until its closure in the 1980s - and the site has since been redeveloped with the Middlebrook retail and business park and the University of Bolton Stadium, home of Bolton Wanderers. Today it feels like a commuter town with local community life, pubs and churches, a railway halt at Horwich Parkway, and ready access to countryside recreation.
