Lode is a small village and civil parish in East Cambridgeshire, in the heart of the low-lying fenlands of Cambridgeshire. It sits among a network of drainage channels and "lodes" that give the area its name, a landscape shaped by peat cutting and historic drainage schemes; the village is close to the National Trust reserve at Wicken Fen and is within easy reach of both Cambridge and the nearby village of Bottisham, making it a quiet rural base with good access to larger centres.
The local economy remains largely agricultural, while nature tourism and recreational walking or cycling around the fens bring visitors, especially to Wicken Fen. Socially it feels like a close-knit village community with the rhythms of fenland life and wildlife strongly present, and its history is visible in the waterways, reedbeds and the surviving farmed landscape that characterise this part of the county.
