Little Gidding is a tiny, tranquil hamlet in the historic county of Huntingdonshire, within Cambridgeshire in eastern England. Set on low-lying farmland close to the River Great Ouse and clustered with neighbouring Great Gidding and Steeple Gidding, it feels pleasantly remote and is reached by narrow country lanes rather than any main road.
Its quiet character masks a notable history: in the 17th century the Ferrar family established a small Anglican devotional community and the surviving St Andrew's Church and surrounding buildings became a place of pilgrimage and literary fame after T. S. Eliot immortalised it in Four Quartets. Today the economy is broadly agricultural, there are no shops and community life is small and close-knit, with occasional visitors drawn by the history, the chapel services and the poetical association.
