Northstowe is a new, planned town on the edge of the district of South Cambridgeshire in Cambridgeshire, England, sited on and around the former RAF Oakington airfield near the villages of Longstanton and Oakington. Launched in the early 21st century and built in phases from the 2010s, it sits roughly seven miles north‑west of Cambridge and was conceived as a sustainable, mixed‑use settlement with new schools, shops, a town centre and extensive green spaces.
The town has strong cycling and public‑transport links into Cambridge and naturally attracts commuters, young families and professionals linked to the city’s tech and research cluster. Its development has been notable for an emphasis on parks, walking and cycleways, community facilities and a significant construction and services economy; culturally it’s evolving quickly, with community groups and events helping shape a new local identity as the place continues to grow.
