Cottenham is a large fen-edge village and civil parish in South Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire, England, lying about six miles north of Cambridge. Its origins go back to medieval times and the flat, low-lying landscape still shows the imprint of historic fen drainage; the village centre is a long High Street with a mix of older cottages and Victorian buildings rather than a compact urban core.
Today Cottenham combines a commuter role for Cambridge with local agriculture, independent shops, pubs, schools and a lively community life - sports clubs, societies and regular village events are prominent. The proximity of canals and open countryside, together with relatively good road links, makes it appealing to families and those wanting a rural feel without being far from city amenities.
