Ampthill is a compact market town and ward in Central Bedfordshire, set on the wooded crest of the Greensand Ridge with wide views over the surrounding Bedfordshire countryside. Its setting is dominated by the formal parkland of Ampthill Park and the nearby ruin of Houghton House, reminders of the area’s long landscape and aristocratic history stretching back to Tudor and later estate development.
Today the ward combines a busy little high street of independent shops, cafes and local services with a mix of small businesses and light industry on the edge, and a strong community calendar including fairs and an annual festival in the park. Good commuter links via nearby Flitwick station and the M1 and A507 roads mean the area blends local rural character with easy access to larger employment centres.
