Vintry is one of the small wards within the City of London, tucked along the north bank of the River Thames. The area is compact, characterised by narrow medieval lanes and a riverside fringe around Queenhithe, with modern office blocks and restaurants squeezed in alongside older churchyards and winding streets close to Cannon Street.
The ward’s identity is shaped by its long association with the wine trade and the livery traditions of the Vintners' Company, and vestiges of that medieval commerce still colour local place names and events. Today it functions largely as a daytime business neighbourhood serving financial and professional services, while historic churches such as St James Garlickhythe and occasional civic ceremonies keep a visible link to the City’s past.
