Boscastle in Cornwall, England is a compact, picturesque harbour village set in a steep-sided valley where the River Valency and the River Jordan meet the sea. The small natural inlet of Boscastle harbour, dramatic cliffs and winding cobbled streets make it a popular stop on the South West Coast Path, prized by walkers and photographers for its rugged coastal scenery and traditional slate cottages.
Once chiefly a fishing and trading port, the village now depends largely on tourism, with independent galleries, craft shops and the quirky Museum of Witchcraft among its attractions, alongside a modest local fishing and farming presence. Boscastle is also remembered for the dramatic flash floods of 2004; recovery and improved flood defences, plus conservation work around the coast, have been central to the community’s revival.
