The civil parish of Carn Brea sits on and around a prominent granite hill in west Cornwall, its summit marked by the 19th‑century obelisk known as the Basset Monument and the castellated house often called Carn Brea Castle. The hill offers sweeping views over Redruth and Camborne and the surrounding former mining landscape, while beneath the modern landmarks lie important prehistoric earthworks and a notable Neolithic hilltop site.
Today Carn Brea is a mix of small villages and former mining hamlets that are largely residential and commuter communities, but it retains a strong local identity through heritage groups, walking routes and community events; the combination of dramatic hilltop archaeology, industrial remains and panoramic scenery keeps it of interest to walkers, historians and local conservationists.
