Perranporth is a compact seaside ward on the north coast of Cornwall, England, sitting on a long sweep of golden sand backed by dunes and clifftops. It lies a short drive west of Newquay and north of Truro, and is well known for its big beach popular with surfers and families, a links-style golf course set among the dunes, and a small airfield that gives the place an unexpectedly lively feel outside high season.
Historically the area grew from fishing and nearby tin-mining parishes and carries the legacy of St Piran - local legend, a buried medieval oratory and shifting sands are part of the story nearby in Perranzabuloe. Today the ward’s economy is strongly tourism-led, with a tight-knit resident community, independent shops and pubs, seasonal lifeguards and a surf culture that shapes much of the town’s social life.
