Bournmoor is a small village in County Durham, in the north‑east of England. It sits a few miles south of Chester‑le‑Street and close to the boundary with Sunderland, with straightforward road links into Durham and the surrounding towns. The locality occupies the edge of the old Durham coalfield, so its landscape mixes pockets of post‑industrial land and terraces with farmland and newer housing.
Like many villages in the area, Bournmoor grew up around coal and associated industries; although the pits have gone it retains a strong community feel, local clubs and a village hall, and a social identity shaped by that industrial past. Today it largely functions as a residential and commuter settlement for nearby centres while offering ready access to the region’s countryside and walking routes.
