Frosterley is a small village in the heart of Weardale, County Durham, sitting on the banks of the River Wear and tucked into the western edge of the Pennines. Its setting is characteristically rural and scenic, with rolling dales, limestone outcrops and plenty of access for walkers and cyclists who come to enjoy the surrounding countryside.
The village is best known for its distinctive Frosterley Marble, a fossil-rich decorative limestone quarried locally and used in ecclesiastical work, including panels in Durham Cathedral. Historically tied to quarrying and the wider lead-mining economy of Weardale, Frosterley today combines a small farming and tourism economy with an active village community and a quiet, heritage-rich atmosphere.
