Tow Law is a small former industrial town in County Durham, England, perched on high ground near the headwaters of the River Wear and close to the North Pennines. Its exposed upland location gives it a windswept character and easy access to moorland walks.
Built up in the 19th century around ironworks and collieries, Tow Law still shows traces of that industrial past even as it has become a quiet residential community; local social life centres on village clubs, a strong neighbourhood identity and outdoor pursuits rather than heavy industry. The town’s story of rapid growth and later economic change is typical of Durham's former mining settlements.
