Muggleswick is a small rural parish on the western edge of County Durham in England, sitting at the lower slopes of the North Pennines. The wider parish is dominated by upland moor and common land - notably Muggleswick Common - and lies close to Derwent Reservoir, giving a landscape of heather, peat and open skylines that are popular with walkers and birdwatchers.
Historically a farming community, sheep grazing and managed grouse moors still shape the local economy, while parts of the moorland are protected for nature conservation and scientific interest. The village retains a handful of traditional stone buildings and a small, close-knit community; its isolated setting means local life is often tied to seasonal rural routines and outdoor recreation rather than larger town centres.
