Castleside is a small village in County Durham, situated just to the north of Consett on the fringe of rolling moorland and farmland that leads towards the Pennines. It lies in the area once administered as the borough of Derwentside and serves as a handy base for walks and countryside recreation while remaining within easy reach of larger towns.
Historically the locality was shaped by nearby mining and the steel industry centred on Consett, but today Castleside is largely residential with local amenities such as a primary school, a village hall and a few shops and pubs; many residents commute to Consett or Newcastle for work. The community retains a strong local identity and benefits from countryside footpaths, cycling routes and seasonal village events that reflect both its rural setting and industrial past.
