Sedgefield is a small market town and civil parish in County Durham in the North East of England, set amid rolling farmland and parkland just to the south‑east of Durham. Its position within easy reach of the A1(M) and the Tees Valley means it functions partly as a commuter base while retaining a compact town centre with a Georgian market square and surrounding villages.
The town is best known for Sedgefield Racecourse, a lively venue for jump and flat racing and occasional concerts, and for nearby Hardwick Hall Country Park with its lake, arboretum and estate walks. A strong community feel, independent shops and local clubs sit alongside agriculture and small businesses, and the place gained wider recognition as the parliamentary seat once held by Tony Blair. Historic features such as St Edmund's Church and regular community events help keep Sedgefield socially active and attractive to visitors.
