Cornforth is a village in County Durham in North East England, lying close to Ferryhill and Spennymoor. It sits in the former Durham coalfield, surrounded by rolling farmland and rows of Victorian terraces, with traces of its industrial past still visible in disused pit sites and colliery buildings.
Like many communities in the area, Cornforth grew rapidly in the 19th and early 20th centuries around coal mining; after the pit closures the local economy shifted and many residents now commute to nearby towns and cities such as Durham or Teesside. The village retains a strong local identity through social clubs, churches and a small cluster of shops, and its proximity to the countryside and transport links gives a quieter, residential feel while keeping it connected to the region.
