The small civil parish centred on Arlecdon and Frizington lies on the western fringe of the Lake District in northern Cumberland, England. It occupies a mix of villages, moorland and former industrial ground, with views towards the western fells and convenient road links to coastal towns such as Whitehaven and Workington.
Both villages grew rapidly in the 19th century with haematite and coal mining, and that industrial past still shapes the landscape and local identity - pit tips, miners’ institutes and heritage groups are common. Today the area is largely post‑industrial, with local services, commuting and a modest contribution from tourism and outdoor recreation; community life remains animated by village halls, sports clubs and annual events that reflect its mining heritage.
