Frizington is a small village in the historic county of Cumberland, now administratively part of Cumbria in north‑west England. It sits on the edge of the Lake District and the Western Fells, a few miles inland from the Cumbrian coast close to Cleator Moor and Whitehaven, with easy access to valleys such as Ennerdale.
Much of the village grew up in the 19th century with iron‑ore and coal mining, and traces of that industrial past survive in Victorian terraces and former works sites. Today Frizington has a small, close‑knit community with local shops, a primary school and community groups; the local economy has moved away from deep mining, with many people commuting to nearby towns or to employment at sites such as Sellafield, while walkers and rural visitors use the village as a quieter base for exploring the western fells.
