Flimby is a small coastal village in the historic county of Cumberland, now administered within Cumbria. It sits on the Solway Firth coast between Maryport and Workington, with a long shingle foreshore, dunes and saltmarsh that attract walkers and birdwatchers and give the place a distinctly maritime feel.
The village has a station on the Cumbrian Coast Line, providing rail links to Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness, and its fortunes have long been tied to the wider industrial and port history of the area. Today Flimby is largely a quiet residential and working community with local shops and a close-knit social life reflecting its coastal, post-industrial setting.
