The parish of Duffield sits in the borough of Amber Valley in Derbyshire, England, around five miles north of Derby and close to Belper. It occupies a pleasant river valley where the River Ecclesbourne meets the River Derwent, and is noted for the earthwork remains of a Norman motte-and-bailey, often referred to as Duffield Castle, together with its medieval links to the once-extensive Duffield Frith royal forest.
Today Duffield is a sought-after village with a mix of period houses, local shops, pubs and active community clubs, popular with commuters thanks to good rail and road links to Derby and beyond. Its setting on the river and proximity to the southern fringes of the Peak District give it a rural feel while retaining strong historic and social character.
