Pinxton is a ward centred on the village of the same name in the district of Bolsover, Derbyshire, sitting close to the Nottinghamshire border and the old East Midlands coalfield. The settlement grew up in the 19th century around coal mining, local brickworks and the transport links that served them; traces of that industrial past remain in features such as the former Cromford Canal branch and Pinxton Wharf, and the area is also remembered for the early 19th‑century Pinxton pottery industry.
Today the ward is largely residential with a mix of local services and community groups, while many residents commute to nearby towns such as Mansfield and Alfreton. There is a quieter, semi‑rural feel to parts of the area, with active local interest in conserving industrial heritage and using nearby countryside and footpaths for leisure.
