Calver is a small village and parish in the Derbyshire Dales of Derbyshire, tucked into the scenic valley of the River Derwent on the edge of the Peak District. The setting is characteristically rugged, with limestone edges and steep sided dales that make it popular with walkers and climbers; the river, a weir and the remains of riverside industry add to the riverside character.
The village has a strong sense of local community and an industrial past - a prominent riverside mill and other 19th‑century works speak to former textile and milling activity, much of which has been repurposed in recent decades. Calver also functions as a pleasant base for commuters and visitors, with good road links to nearby towns such as Matlock and the city of Sheffield, while retaining a quiet, rural village atmosphere.
