West Hallam is a village and civil parish in the district of Erewash, in Derbyshire, England, a few miles east of Derby and close to Ilkeston and the Nottinghamshire border. The village sits amid rolling farmland and has a compact centre of traditional stone and brick houses, with pleasant footpaths and green spaces that make it popular with walkers and families.
Historically the settlement grew from agriculture into small-scale mining and brick- and lime-working in the 19th century, and today it combines preserved older buildings and a conservation-minded village character with a lively community life of local clubs, pubs and events. Many residents commute to Derby or Nottingham, while others work locally, giving the place a mix of village atmosphere and easy access to nearby towns.
