Hayfield is a small ward centred on the village at the eastern edge of the Peak District in High Peak, Derbyshire, England. It sits in the valley of the River Sett, backed by open moorland and reservoirs, and acts as a popular gateway for walkers heading up onto Kinder Scout and the surrounding Pennine high moors. The old branch railway line to New Mills has been converted into the Sett Valley Trail, a well-used walking and cycling route that links the ward with neighbouring towns.
Once home to small textile mills during the 19th century, the local economy is now a mix of tourism, outdoor retail and commuters travelling to nearby towns such as Glossop and beyond. The area has a lively village feel with pubs, cafes and community groups, and lies close to the spot associated with the 1932 Kinder Scout mass trespass, an event that helped shape public access to the moorland that surrounds the ward.
