Tintwistle is an electoral ward in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, in the north‑west of England. Sitting in the Longdendale valley on the edge of the Peak District, the ward is dominated by upland moor, farmland and the Longdendale chain of reservoirs; the Woodhead Pass and the line of the old Woodhead Tunnel lend a strong transport and industrial heritage to the landscape.
Historically part of Cheshire until the 1974 local government reorganisation, the area retains a small, close‑knit community with village pubs, a parish council and local events. Many residents commute to nearby Glossop or Manchester, while walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers are drawn to the reservoirs and moorland, giving the ward a mix of rural life, conservation interest and reservoir-era engineering significance.
